Your baby’s weight and insurance

03 Dec

There’s a school of thought that says, “the number don’t lie”. The assumption is that numbers are facts and facts are always true. So if someone counts the number of times something happens, this gives you a basis from which to estimate the probability of the same thing happening across a population. This is the basis of underwriting for insurance purposes. Teams of highly trained people called actuaries count how many traffic accidents there are. They break it down into the age, make and model of car, the age, gender and profession of the driver, the time of day, the weather conditions, and so on. We happily accept information that, in the first half of 2009, only 16,626 people were killed in crashes, a 7% drop as against the same period last year. We are not surprised when we read this proves that there are 1.15 deaths per 100 million miles driven. The facts are facts and must be true.

Why are premium notices a source of stress?

03 Dec

Life is never fair. Just when you think you have hit rock bottom and things cannot get any worse, they get worse. You would have thought that a recession would mean premium rates would stay the same. In your dreams, you might have hoped for the rates to fall. After all, there’s massive unemployment – it’s the worst level of unemployment for more than sixty years. With household incomes falling and no job security, this is not the time to find premium rates increasing. Yet when those premium notices drop into your mail boxes, the evidence is there. And it’s not just you. Premiums are going up for most drivers. This is so unfair! All but three states in the union have mandatory liability insurance. For everyone who wants to stay legal on the roads, the price of driving is getting to deterrent levels. First it was the price of gas shooting up like a rocket. Now it’s those premiums! What’s going on?

How should society react to the problems of the poor?

13 Nov

There’s a darker side to America. It boasts it’s the land of the free. It claims it’s a level playing field and everyone can make it if they try hard enough. This myth of hard work always being rewarded with big bucks is dangerously misleading to the many who hope to improve their lot. Now add in the tenet that everyone should take responsibility for their own lives. This is the land of the individual, they claim. People should keep what they earn. Everything else is socialism and evil. Society should never help the weak and disadvantaged because it only encourages freeloading. As an example, you only have to look at the campaign against reform of the healthcare industry. Raise taxes on the rich to pay for healthcare for the poor is dragging the US into the same pit as Russia and all those other communist states.

How to make a claim

13 Nov

The majority of policy holders will go through the year without making a claim. It’s possible a major weather disaster could suddenly take out an area, but the actual risks of fires, thefts and accidents around the home are relatively low. Even high-crime areas do not produce excessive numbers of claims. That’s why, when the anticipated cost of all the losses is spread among the policy holders, the premiums are not too high. That said, people find the claims process confusing, so here are some simple steps to keep technical problems to a minimum.

Keeping your business protected from external risks

01 Nov

You are prosperous and you feel like the world is at your feet. Yes, many of us want to believe we own the success and we stand behind it alone. But in reality, there are people standing behind our back that are involved in our rises and falls. These people are the employees. Therefore you need to think of them as a part of your team that was there to get you to the top of the world. You should know your staff needs a reward. But how could you possibly reward them? If your company takes care of more than two but less than 50 people, there is an insurance that works for you and your business. It is very valuable when people that run the business for you are proficient employees who are in charge of their duties. But no matter what happens in the companies, no matter how many mistakes one can make, because we are only human after all, the staff needs to feel like they are cared even when they fail, as it can happen to anyone.

The “cream” off the top of the Policy

Right before you head into the office of the insurance company and put your signature somewhere get yourself together and remind yourself why you are there. Make a list of questions you need to ask before you sign anything. Make sure all the answers satisfy you. It is preferable to show up with statistics about the staff you want to insure, gather all of the important information on them that is necessary to apply for the coverage. Remember to introduce the slightest details and help the insurer to collect all the fact as accurately as possible.

There are certain discounts and special offers that the business insurance allows you to take advantage of. They are the following:

  • Medical assistance. The insurance will take care of all the events that would involve you or any member of your team getting hurt.
  • Tax-free options. All the co-workers have a possibility to economize some money on taxes and some special payments.
  • Low payments. If you are the owner of a small enterprise – small business insurance will cost you less than other policies would normally cost you if purchased separately. Therefore it always makes sense to shop around some more instead of jumping on the first opportunity you see.

Keeping your vehicle protected

Automobile guarantee

Being a driver I always wonder why there is no escape from paying hundreds ad hundreds of dollars on a car? Sometimes it seems to not matter what type of car you own, the design or the brand, the year or manufacturing country – you will always end up paying more than you were supposed to from the beginning. Why are the insurance policy ratings constantly increasing and when is it going to stop? The answer is – never. With the amount of accidents that take place today it is impossible to lower premiums on your insurance as insurance companies need to solve these problems somehow.

So what can we possibly do to help to keep the rates at a low point? What rule do we need to read? What types of sites do we need to visit?

First of all, no sites and books will give you any low premiums when the situation is drastic. The first factor that we need to consider is our driving record. We won’t ever deny the fact that a good driving record helps. If your driving record in unpleasant, let’s say it is simply bad, there is a possibility that insurers will not want to work with you under preferable conditions, which means their rates will be hiked up. If your driving record is simply poor – it is not that big of a deal. All you have to do is take the classes the state has to offer and lower the points on your driving license. You might want to check if you state has this type of program before you get too content about it.

The second point to consider is the safety features of the car. When people think of buying a car they usually rank it as a number one priority as your car may fall into a category that might cost you a fortune.

If you are an owner of a brand new sports car, don’t be surprised to find out you have to pay extra or more than your friends have to pay. Sports automobile is in the risky car group which means the risk of an accident on the road is much higher than it would be having a simple family car. Insurance companies pay lots of attention to those autos that have some safety features, like anti-lock brakes, airbags, alarm, etc. So if you want your insurance premium decreased please consider having safety features in your car too.

If you policy has no lapse in it, it might help your premiums as well. If your history is perfect and you are famous for being on time with your payments, it is definite advantage. Try to not make any cancellations or miss any duty payments ever. Good loyal and reliable clients usually get good discounts from the auto insurance companies.

Personal Finance Budgeting – Secrets To Keep Your Budget On Track

Being disciplined when it comes to personal finance budgeting is a key component for anyone seeking financial freedom. Taking control of your finances is the first step to starting down the road to building the life you always wanted and the quickest and easiest way to do this is with a budget. The most critical part of the personal budgeting journey is the emotional and mental side of the equation. Why?

Our behavior with money is the reason most of us get into financial problems in the first place. Our own wants over ride our common sense and before we know it we have a house full of stuff that we end up paying for twice over. Many financial experts say that personal finance is 80 percent behavior and 20 percent math.

This is where the household budget comes into play. In this day and age the great majority of people have no idea how much money they make each month let alone where the money goes once they cash their pay check. Before long this behavior catches up with everyone and they are in perpetual catch up mode when it comes to paying bills and meeting their financial needs. A budget, if done honestly, allows you to see exactly how much money is coming in and not only how much is being spent but also what it is being spent on.

Once you see what you have been spending money on you can come to grips with the bad behavior that has gotten you, and so many others, into a financial mess. Eating out two or three nights a week, going out to lunch everyday, that morning visit to the coffee shop, they all add up and chances are once you look over your written budget you will find many areas where expenditures are a little to high and are breaking the budget.

Here are four personal finance budgeting secrets to help keep a new budget on track.

1. Probably the hardest part of keeping a budget is keeping track of daily expenditures. One way to do this is to keep a small log book or ledger where you can keep track of your daily expenses.

2. Before going grocery shopping it is a good idea to make a list of the things you need. Check the fridge, the cupboards, and the pantry to make sure you aren\’t buying stuff you already have. Stick to the list once at the store and do not buy things not on the list.

3. Going to the store just to do some shopping is one of the easiest ways to suffer from an impulse purchase. Nothing will destroy a well thought out budget quite like an impulse purchase.

4. For large purchases over $300 or more it is a good idea to step back and wait a day or two before committing. Once given the chance to think it over chances are you will realize you don\’t really need it.

Personal finance budgeting is about taking responsibility for your money and hunting down and killing those behaviors that are costing you money. The beauty of the budget is it shows you exactly how your behavior with your money is affecting your financial situation.
